letting go...

I started reading Kris' Wild at Heart book last night. Not because I thought it applied to me, but because I like to be well read. Little did I know, it did apply to me! A chapter talks about little boys leaving their mothers and clinging to their fathers as a right of passage almost, so their fathers can teach them the masculine things that God has put in their hearts to know. How, if the father don't step in at this crutial time and the mothers don't let go as well, you can really mold your boys into things they will battle within themselves for well into their adult years...Wow. The thing is, is that I've been feeling for a couple of weeks now that Caed was clinging to Kris way more than me-which is weird because it's always been Mom and Caed. Now I know that this is the stage he is starting to emerge into-Kris will be imparting things to him that I cannot and Caed will be recieving things from Kris that will mold and shape the man he will become. Scary yet liberating at the same time, knowing that we have the opportunity to do the best we can do and identify it as it is happening. So, to the mom's of little boys- I highly recommend that you read the Wild at Heart book! There is a lot of great information for mom's in how to raise little men in the image of God.

That's great. I've actually been wanting to read that book, but thought it would apply more to when Colton is older. I understand how hard it is to let go! I love having a boy, especially since I grew up with two older sisters! It has really been an adventure!

Yes! Yes! Yes! My dad bought that book for Nate. Well, Nate doesn't enjoy reading, so I read it. And I'm so glad I did! Not only did it give me the courage to let my boys be boys (in today's society it seems authority figures are often more interested in turning them into girls) but it helped me understand my husband more. That book was incredible in the way it helped me see the things that have always been there: Nate's needs and desires, my boy's energies and dreams. It's just that society tries to tell us those things are wrong and need to be concealed.

What an amazing book. I'm so, so glad that you're reading it!!!
